GaN chargers are taking over in terms of electronic charging technology; however, the accessories based on it tend to stop at USB ports, whether type-C or -A. However, Baseus has decided to shake that trend up somewhat with the PowerCombo range, a series of devices that also incorporate the multiple AC outputs normally found directly on the wall.
The result is not so much a traditional power strip as new version of one of the many high-wattage multi-port USB power hubs on the market, elongated further to accommodate an AC socket on 3 sides of the PowerCombo Pro 40W.
They are rated to deliver up to 1,625 watts (W) of power, and is thus not recommended for full household applicances so much as with many consumer-grade projectors, lamps or monitors. Baseus asserts that its "BDIP" chip prevent it from overcharging (or under-charging, or short-circuiting) any one device plugged into it at any one time.
This might be most useful when connecting devices via its 2 type-C ports and 1 type-A port, which, as the name suggests, charge at a maximum of 40W. Baseus asserts that they are enhanced with its latest "5th gen" GaN technology.
The PowerCombo Pro 40W is also described as upgrading to "12000J" surge protection, which, worryingly enough, does not feature in its PowerCombo 65W and 100W predecessors. Baseus' latest "6-in-1 USB C Charging Station" is available on Amazon from now for US$39.99 at the time of writing.
