Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-51RL
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-51RL is one of the best budget full-size laptops in stores today. It checks most of the right boxes which are well built, slim and fairly light, gets a decent keyboard, an IPS screen and modern hardware, performs well, runs cool and quiet and lasts for a long while on a charge. Both design and build wise this Aspire 5 is step-up from the Aspire E15 series. For starters, it’s thinner and lighter, weighing in about 4.6 lbs with an HDD and SSD included, while the older models weigh around 5.3 lbs. Second, while the construction is still mostly plastic, the interior (palm-rest and area around the keyboard) is made from a sheet of aluminum with beveled edge, which feels more premium when touched or looked at. Third, thanks to the drop in height this notebook is also a lot sturdier. There’s very little flex or give in the main body, the keyboard deck, and even the hood. The lid has a nice texture and comes in gray, which hides smudges well, there are absolutely no lights inside, as even the status LEDs are discrete and placed on the side, the bottom is made from solid hard plastic and the hinges work smoothly all the time. They might seem small, but actually, keep the screen well in place and allow users to actually lift it with a single hand, as well as flip it all the way flat to 180 degrees. This laptop also sits nicely on a desk, thanks to the large and grippy rubber feet on the belly. The Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-51RL features a 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS panel. The FHD IPS panel isn’t the best IPS option could be found on a 15-inch laptop for sure, but it’s good enough for a budget laptop, with up to 250 nits of brightness, great contrast, and good viewing angles. Specs wise the Aspire 5 A515 is built on Intel Core U hardware, DDR4 RAM and dual-storage, and we got to test the top-tier configuration available at launch, with a Core i7-7500U processor, 20 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD. The graphic processor is a Nvidia GeForce MX150 with 2 GB VRAM and supports HDMI output. As far as IO goes, all the ports are lined on the right and left edges. Even the arrangement is pretty good, with the PSU, two USB 2.0 Type A ports and the audio jack on the left, while all the others are on the right. The right side includes a Kensington Lock, LAN, HDMI, USB 3.0 Type A and USB 3.1 Type C gen 1, as well as the card-reader. In other words, if user plan to use this with a mouse, they will have plenty of space to manoeuvre it on the right side. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

Arduous all-rounder. Acer's brand-new multimedia all-rounder is equipped with an IPS panel, an SSD+HDD combo, and a GPU suitable for gaming. In addition, it surprised us with its very long battery life.

Are we being overly fussy, insisting that you should insist on a full HD and IPS display in this price range? Maybe, but we know that such a screen will make you a lot happier than having 12GB versus 8GB of RAM or a hard drive in addition to an SSD. For those willing to sacrifice some power and storage for a better display, the Asus F556UA-AB32 and the Editors' Choice Acer Aspire E 15 are both solid desktop-replacement alternatives, with their 1080p screens and under-$500 price tags.

This is one of a range recently launched at Thorpe Park on what in some parts of the country was the hottest day of the year. While it was an event I was unable to make I have been kept up to date by the excellent Acer PR Company, here the first offering sent to me.

The $600 Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-52R1 is a good-looking laptop that has several things going for it, including USB Type-C compatibility, loud audio and strong graphics performance. The machine's Core i5 processor is reliable for everyday use, providing decent performance for work and play. However, the Aspire 5's battery life is much shorter than that of its competitors.

Acer offers a solid foundation for a mid-range multimedia laptop in the Aspire 5. The capable CPU and GPU, comfortable keyboard, and user-upgradable RAM and storage all make it good value. However, you'll need to be careful when shopping as there are many variants of the Aspire 5, all priced in the range of Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 52,000, with very slight variations in their configurations. For instance, the A515-515G-571Z model that we tested isn’t available with 8GB of RAM so if you that pre-installed then you’ll have to forego either the full-HD display or Windows. Some models are available online but the rest should be available across major retail chains like Croma, Reliance Digital, etc, according to Acer.

Boon or bust. A GeForce MX130? Until now only two laptop manufacturers have built this pared-down version of the MX150 into their models. One of them is Acer who uses this rare combination of an i5-8250U and the MX130 in their 15-inch Aspire 5. Among other things we will find in our test how large the difference in the graphics performance really is and whether the Acer is mainly suited for work or also for gaming.

Positive: Solid workmanship; comfortable keyboard; nice display; good price / performance ratio; long battery life. Negative: Mediocre touchpad; no backlit keys; overheats while using.

The 15-inch Aspire 5 delivers pretty much the same user experience as the 17-inch model with one big exception – the screen. Apparently, Acer has cut some corners regarding screen quality and instead of a high-end IPS panel, they’ve put a mid-range display with limited sRGB coverage and slightly above average maximum brightness. However, we can’t really complain because at this price range, this panel makes more sense. The display on the 17-inch model was a bonus. Still, the absence of PWM above 22% brightness and the exceptionally high contrast should be considered.

Acer Aspire 5 A515-51-58HD
Acer laptops have been historically known for their affordable price tags and overall solid value for the money, albeit with a few cut corners here and there, perfectly normal for budget devices. The Acer Aspire 5 A515-51-58HD is a budget laptop that manages to squeeze quad-core power into a reasonably slim-and-light design. It is one of the best budget full-size laptops users can find in stores. It checks most of the right boxes: well built, slim and fairly light, decent keyboard, IPS screen and modern hardware, performs well, runs cool and quiet and lasts for a long while on a charge. For starters, it’s thinner and lighter, weighing in about 2.09 kg (4.6 lbs) with an HDD and SSD included, while the older models weigh around 2.4 kg (5.3 lbs). Second, while the construction is still mostly plastic, the interior (palm-rest and area around the keyboard) is made from a sheet of aluminium with beveled edge, which feels more premium when touched or looked at. Speaking of the hinge, it’s capable of swiveling a little more than 180 degrees, meaning a user can lay it completely flat with the lid open, although it won’t swivel all the way around like a true convertible laptop. As for the screen, the FHD IPS panel on the Acer Aspire 5 A515-51-58HD isn’t the best IPS option user could find on a 15-inch laptop for sure, but it’s good enough for a budget laptop, with up to 250 nits of brightness, great contrast and good viewing angles, but rather lacking in terms of color coverage. For the hardware specifications, it comes with a quad-core, eighth-generation Core i5-8250U processor, a 1 TB hard drive, integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics (meaning don’t expect much in the way of gaming), and a somewhat meager 4 GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable to up to 20GB). With these specs, users have a reasonably powerful laptop for handling everyday computing chores. As far as IO goes, all the ports are lined on the right and left edges. Even the arrangement is pretty good, with the PSU, two USB Type A 2.0 slots and the audio jack on the left, while all the others are on the right: Kensington Lock, LAN, HDMI, USB 3.0 Type A and USB 3.1 Type C gen 1, as well as the card reader. As a conclusion, users who are on a budget and don’t mind the bulkiness of the laptop can definitely consider this model. While it’s thicker and heavier than competitors and suffers from an iffy display, the Optane memory-equipped Acer Aspire 5 delivers an impressive quad-core performance for less than its ultraportable competitors. Acer's 15.6-inch allrounder is a lot more compact, slim and light than its competition. But there is no need to worry about having to trade these features with performance. The device also offers a matte IPS Full HD display, a GeForce MX150 GPU and a quad-core processor of the Whiskey Lake generation.

Acer Aspire 5 (A515-52G) is a device we really wanted to like. Keeping in mind that its predecessor is what we can still point out as one of the best budget multimedia notebooks. Moreover, the A515-52G could easily be successful, if it wasn’t for some major disappointments. First, and probably the most prominent one, is battery life – the Aspire 5 (A515-51G) lasts twice as much as the A515-52G.

The Acer Aspire 5 Slim A515-52G is a confusing laptop. It does some things very well but has a lot of issues that go beyond quirks. The hardware is capable and the package is portable, but this laptop just isn't always comfortable to use. For people like us whose main work involves typing, the keyboard layout and quality, not to mention the airflow issue, are absolute dealbreakers.

Acer's 15.6-inch multimedia all-rounder scores points with a slim and compact body, as well as a good configuration: Core i7 processor, IPS display, NVMe SSD, HDD, dual-channel RAM. The highlight is the new GeForce MX250 GPU. Despite it having a price of around 1,100 Euros (~$1,236), the laptop does not come without its weaknesses.

Okay, guys, keep in mind that we are talking about a budget laptop over here. In fact, as we mentioned, in some regions it might just be the cheapest IPS-equipped laptop that features the GeForce MX250. This not only enables you to play some low-medium intensive games at decent frame rates but also without breaking your bank account.

There are two types of laptops I've come to expect from Acer: Standout premium models like the crazy Swift 7 ultraportable and Predator Triton 900, and mainstream laptops that are impossibly good deals -- like last year's Predator Helios 300 and this year's Acer Aspire 5. For more than a year, Acer's Aspire E 15 was my go-to pick for anyone who just needed a quick, reliable laptop for general use around the home. Sadly, that model is getting harder to find, but the Aspire 5 is an excellent alternative that's thinner, lighter and still an impossibly good deal.

Capable of smooth-as-butter performance for mainstream computing activities, this Core i5-powered version of the Acer Aspire 5 manages to pack quad-core power into a thin, budget-priced chassis. But while it can run Office like a charm, the Aspire’s quad-core performance isn’t quite as impressive, and we’re also disappointed by its dim display.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive quad-core laptop that’s less than three-quarters of an inch thick, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-54-51DJ might fit the bill. This slim laptop packs in more than enough power for everyday computing tasks, and its quad-core performance is respectable, if shy of awe-inspiring. A fingerprint reader and nearly all-day battery life will appeal to productivity-minded road warriors, although they’ll have to settle for a display that’s on the dim side.

The Acer Aspire 5 is the laptop to get if you're on a budget. It features great performance for the price, a display that's brighter than most cheap laptops, and it'll survive longer than your average workday. The only real issues with it are its middling graphics and the fact that the lid may be a little off-center. If you want to save a little more money, go with the Acer Aspire E 15 ($361). It's bulkier, but it offers more ports and the same good performance but with stronger graphics and better build quality for a cheaper price. You will lose out on an SSD, however. Overall, the Aspire 5 is an excellent budget laptop.

The Acer Aspire 5 (2019) is good for docs and light browsing, but a dim display and simple design don’t make it worth going with a high-end configuration.

The Core i3-powered version of the Acer Aspire 5 offers middling speed, and we wish it had more storage, but this still manages to find the sweet spot between size, power, and price. For $400, you get a slim and relatively light chassis, smooth performance for everyday applications, a roomy 1080p display, and plenty of battery life. That adds up to a pretty good value.

Most of all, however, this Aspire 5 model (A515-43-R19L) is way cheap. With a list price of $350, this Ryzen 3-powered laptop usually sells for closer to $310 on Amazon—not bad for a full-on Windows 10 laptop with a roomy display and a sleek design.

There’s a lot to like about this inexpensive Ryzen 3-powered Acer Aspire 5, including its slim and light chassis, and its solid performance when it comes to mainstream computing tasks. However, the middling battery life on this particular Aspire model is tough to overlook. If you have a $310 budget and you can’t spend a penny more, you could do a lot worse than this productivity-minded workhorse. However, we recommend spending an extra $40 for the (as of this writing) $350 Core i3 version of the Aspire 5, which comes saddled with the same 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD but boasts significantly better battery life.

The Acer Aspire 5 (A515-55) in an unpretentious device that has its pros and cons like every other notebook. The build is nothing spectacular – the plastic dominates almost the whole build except for the lid which is made of aluminum and adds a bit of premium feel. Well, after opening the lid you will face a very well-built base. Both sides of the keyboard are susceptible to bends if you apply a bit more force on the body. Let’s be more specific – the base isn’t that easy to bend but there some visible flexes all the time For instance if you aren’t careful, and if you type something fast, or you press the keycaps harder than usual.

We’ve been consistently impressed by Acer’s budget-minded Aspire 5 line, and this new configuration with an Intel Ice Lake CPU doesn't disappoint. While it’s a tad heavy (same as other Aspire 5 laptops we've tried) and its battery life isn’t the greatest, this new Aspire 5 can crank through everyday computing tasks without skipping a beat, and it holds its own when it comes to video processing, database crunching, and other heavy CPU loads. Yes, you’ll need to keep the AC adapter handy, but given the $550 price tag, we’re not complaining too much.

At least you will be able to enjoy more than 7 hours of battery life during light loads and you actually get an IPS panel. Also, there is the option for an Ethernet connection, as well as an HDMI output, but you have to forget for an SD card reader, a Thunderbolt port, or other expensive wallet killers.

Here, we are definitely seeing an improvement over last year. The design looks better (subjectively), the laptop is more portable (by being 150 grams lighter), and it has a lot more performance than ever before. Of course, if we’re not considering the AMD options, of course. Thankfully, this laptop uses a 25W version of the MX350, which provides a pretty decent gaming experience. In fact, as we tested, the integrated Xe Graphics G7 also provides high-enough fps in low-demanding games.

The Core i3-powered version of the Acer Aspire 5 offers good speed for the price, and we wish it had more storage, but still manages to hit the sweet spot between size, power, and price. For a sub-$400 price tag, you get a slim and light chassis, smooth performance for everyday task, a bright 1080p display and good battery life. All that make the Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-363A a pretty good value.

The Acer A515-56-36UT is one of the most affordable Windows 11 laptops available in the market right now. It’s a great alternative to cheap Chromebooks, but its low price means you have to do with a few compromises, especially the build quality.

If you are looking for an inexpensive laptop possible that can get the job done, like a basic home office or homeschooling your child, this is absolutely a bargain. But if you want a high-end fancy laptop I am afraid this is not what you want. Overall, this notebook is not going to win any powerful laptop awards, but it does what it is supposed to do for an everyday laptop. The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-36UT is an excellent value for what it offers. The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-36UT slim laptop is an exceptionally good choice if you want to have an affordable laptop that has the newest Intel processor.

If you look for an affordable laptop that is light, sleek, and has newer components inside, then yes, it’s a good one for you. We cannot ignore the 11th Gen of Intel i5 quad-core processor, the updated Graphics, and the many features that we mentioned earlier. There are many laptops that they sell at this price tag, but they lack fingerprint readers and have no backlit keyboard. Plus it has the option to expand the memory and storage.

When looking at Acer’s website, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Acer Aspire 5 is an expensive, high-end laptop that includes a 12th generation i7 processor and powerful GeForce graphics card. But, as we’ve found with Acer in the past, the company’s website tends to just focus on its top-of-the-range models, and leaves you to find out about other options that might be available. In this instance, it turns out that the Aspire 5 is available with a wide range of different models and specifications - in fact, there are more than 60 different configurations listed on Acer’s US website, including 17.3-inch and 15.6-inch displays, with both Intel and AMD processors. And, if you search long enough, you may even find the entry-level 14-inch version of the Aspire 5 that we review here, which is based on an older 11th generation i5 processor. That’s clearly not the powerful laptop “for accelerated photo and video editing performance” that Acer promises, but if you judge the Aspire 5 on its own merits then it does make a perfectly respectable entry-level laptop for routine web browsing and productivity tasks.

If you’re looking for a college or work laptop that won’t cost the earth, but which isn’t compromised with cheap build quality and dated hardware, then the Acer Aspire 5 is a great choice. The range of configurations available means there’s a good chance you’ll find an Aspire 5 model that perfectly suits your needs and budget – while the model in this review has the limitations of Windows 11 Home in S mode, there are options to get an Aspire 5 with the full version of Microsoft’s latest operating system. Battery life is particularly good, so if you want an inexpensive laptop that can dependably last a full day without needing to be constantly plugged into a power socket, the A515-46-R3UB is definitely worth considering. On the Acer Aspire 5 A515-46-R3UB, however, the combination of a pleasing 1080p display, light travel weight, and a palatable price mean that the laptop’s main drawbacks are issues to weight instead of reasons not to buy.

If you hope to see a powerhouse laptop that you can use to encode view while playing heavy games in 4k resolution, wait and save for +1k + laptop elsewhere. But if you are looking for an inexpensive laptop that you can take around without being worried in case you accidentally drop it on the ground, you cannot go wrong with this model. It’s a good laptop for school, work from home, online meetings, and more. The fingerprint reader and the backlit keyboard are features that you can hardly get somewhere else for this price. You can’t go wrong with this A515-46-R3UB, especially in today’s computer chip rarity.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
