ARCHOS: The 101 is a new Android 2.2 tablet

The new ARCHOS 101 internet tablet features an ARM processor and an OpenGL video card


The French electronics company, ARCHOS, has recently released a new series of internet tablets. The most powerful one, called 101, has a stainless steel structure and a weight of 480g (16.9oz). This device also offers Wi-Fi connectivity, HD video playback, high portability and a long battery life.

Configuration

ARCHOS’s new portable PC is apparently equipped with an ARM Cortex A8 processor at its heart. The central processing unit only has one core which is clocked at 1GHz.

This device also comes with a 10.1-inch WXVGA touch screen. In addition, the high definition TFT LCD display has a native resolution of 1024-by-600 pixels and offers consumers high quality of the picture when viewing photos and HD videos. Moreover, the ARCHOS 101 supposedly sports a 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics controller which allows customers to play 3D games on the device.

The tablet reportedly houses 8GB or 16GB of internal flash memory. This can be further increased as there is a Micro SD card slot which is also SDHC compatible.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the new ARCHOS 101 comes with an 802.11 b/g/n wireless adapter and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR that allow users to surf the web and exchange data with other devices.

Furthermore, this tablet reportedly features integrated front VGA camera, microphone and speaker for video conferencing.

In addition, the HDMI output added to this machine is a good way to watch HD videos or play 3D games on an external TV.

Other specs, pricing and availability

The portable PC is equipped with a Lithium Polymer battery which according to the ARCHOS web site can last up to 7 hours when watching a video, up to 10 when surfing the Internet and up to 36 hours if listening to music.

Furthermore, the tablet weighs only 480g (or 16.9oz) and ships with an Android 2.2 OS. The portable PC also comes with several pre-installed applications such as Ebuddy, Wikipedia, Avecomics, Fring and others.

The new ARCHOS 101 internet tablet will be available in October and will be priced at about $300 (or approx. €235)
