Intel's latest Callpela platform has found a few serious takers. Initially it was Dell, Alienware, and Asus who wanted to give users the ultimate gaming experience which was possible by using the new Core i7 processor and Nvidia's latest graphic cards. Now, Sager is planning to give users, what it claims is "the world's most powerful 15.6-inch gaming notebook" in the form of the NP8690 gaming notebook.

Ok, so you all must be wondering what makes Sager say those words, well, this system is powered by the latest Intel Core i7-720QM, Core i7-820QM, or Core i7-920XM CPU coupled with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 280M GPU with 1GB of virtual memory and up to 8GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 memory. With that configuration I personally think that the claims can somewhat be true. As I always say you got to see it yourself to believe it, I would suggest that you try it on first. So, what else does this notebook have in store for the users, lets see:

  • Up to 500GB HDD
  • DVD burner/ Blu-ray combo drive
  • 15.6-inch LED backlit screen with 1920x1080 pixels / 1600x900 pixels display
  • Stereo speakers with microphone
  • 2MP webcam
  • Ethernet, WiFi 802.11n, bluetooth
  • HDMI and DVI output
  • Four USB ports
  • e-SATA port
  • Firewire
  • ExpressCard slot
  • 7-in-1 media card reader
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Windows XP/Windows Vista operating system

From the pics I can suggest that this notebook looks quite decent specially with its chiclet styled keyboard. Although, as one would quite expect, this gaming monster is a bit heavy weighing in at around 7.4-pounds, but, then you don't get all that power without adding some heavy components to it. The Sager NP8690 gaming monster is up for pre-orders for a base price of $1,789 and it will start shipping in October.
