Vivo X500 Pro to feature square front camera while Vivo X Fold 7 apparently won't copy iPhone Ultra format
Apple led the way with its Center Stage camera in the iPhone 17 generation and now imitators are following suit, however with significantly more megapixels. While the latest iPhones feature an 18-megapixel octagon-shaped sensor for greater flexibility with selfies and group selfies, Chinese manufacturers are going all out with significantly higher megapixel counts. Reports of a 100-megapixel sensor behind the front camera in the Oppo Find X10 series have already surfaced multiple times; now there are also the first indications of similar developments at Vivo.
A Weibo post by Digital Chat Station mentions a 68-megapixel Sony sensor that could potentially be installed in the Vivo X500, X500 Pro, and Vivo X500 Pro Max. However, we must caution that the prototypes that all these leaks are based on have not been validated for mass production yet, so things might still change before the expected launch in September. Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will also get new front-facing cameras, as was recently reported by leakers, though it’s still unclear whether they’ll be based on a square sensor.
The Vivo X Fold 7 appears to be sticking to its format
Hidden in the comments on this post is yet another tidbit of information for Vivo fans. In response to a commenter’s question, Digital Chat Station provided a very clear indication that Vivo apparently has no current plans to jump on the “wide-foldable” trend, which is slowly taking over the international foldable market this year. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 was an early indication to what's in store for us in fall of 2026. In addition to the Apple iPhone Fold (aka iPhone Ultra ), a more compact and wider Xiaomi foldable is also expected, which has already been leaked in a hands-on image. A format change is also expected from Honor and Oppo, but Vivo is apparently still waiting to see how things play out.
