Wider 16:10 smartphones may be coming
It was probably meant as a joke initially since popular leaker Ice Universe followed up a recent AI-generated Oppo Find W teaser poster (see below) with a message stating that it was “intended for entertainment purposes only and should not be taken seriously.” Shortly thereafter, the teaser poster disappeared from his X account—though it can still be found on Weibo. There, and on @techinfosocials, it’s also reported that this potentially much wider Oppo Find W is planned for early 2027 and could potentially launch alongside the Oppo Find X10 Ultra.

Is this all just a joke, or is there more to it? The current foldable trend with its wider but much more compact form factors (see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8) will soon be adopted by Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor, likely because Apple also chose it for their upcoming iPhone Ultra. So far, a format close to 16:10 on a smartphone has only been found in the latest foldables, but the trend toward wider smartphone displays could potentially extend to traditional bar-style phones as well, as the usually very reliable leaker Digital Chat Station has recently hinted on Weibo.
Oppo apparently has plans up its sleeve
It’s hardly surprising that Oppo, of all companies, has such plans up their sleeve. With its 18:9 aspect ratio, the 2022 Oppo Find N2 already stood in stark contrast to the then-extremely tall 23.1:9 aspect ratio of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4. In the years that followed, Oppo adapted to the standard foldable format and made it's foldables taller again. Google’s first Pixel Fold was also significantly wider than its South Korean competitor. Oppo is now potentially considering a 16:10 display measuring about 6.3 to 6.4 inches for its smartphone once again. Whether this only has advantages for the user, is debatable though. At the very least, one-handed operation would likely be more limited for many people. According to Digital Chat Station, there are currently no signs of an upcoming mass production of such a bar-style 16:10 phone.
