Xiaomi Mix Fold 5: First hands-on image of compact Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Ultra competitor running HyperOS 4 spotted

The next Xiaomi foldable shouldn’t be too far off, as a working test version is already circulating in the wild. At least that’s what a hands-on photo suggests—one that was apparently first posted by X-user @sunny1583 and later appeared on Ximitime together with a heavily edited screenshot.
It is a Chinese model that apparently already runs HyperOS 4 based on Android 17, which aligns with earlier rumors suggesting that Xiaomi's next foldable phone—potentially named Xiaomi Mix Fold 5—will be the first to ship with the new HyperOS version. There have also been rumors and leaks about Xiaomi's next chipset, probably named Xring O3, running on the device, a horizontal Leica camera module featuring a 200-megapixel main camera plus a 6,000 mAh battery.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi foldable—which may potentially also launch as part of the Xiaomi 18 family—is completely different from the previous Xiaomi Mix Fold series. Similar to the competition Xiaomi is switching to a more compact but wider form factor, which the Huawei Pura X Max pioneered in China this year. In a few days, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will try to establish this form factor globally with the Apple iPhone Ultra expected in September. Honor and Oppo are also working on wider foldables as past leaks have suggested.
