Although the Instagram Story didn’t provide the very first glimpse, it did offer the first official look at the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which will be unveiled next week during the Galaxy Unpacked launch event. One of the BTS members was allowed to go ahead and "leak" the device in full glory.

It’s actually almost ridiculous that Samsung doesn’t officially show off the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in its crafty Spider-Man teaser video and instead pretends that the movie camera just happens to suffer from massive lens flare attack at a crucial part of the video. After all, just about everyone with even a minor interest in tech has probably already seen the three new Samsung foldables, which have leaked many times by now, including in the form of official marketing materials from Samsung.

But it is what it is, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 can’t be officially shown yet, even though there are of course a few privileged people in the world who are already using and testing Samsung’s new Galaxy foldables. However, they aren’t allowed to officially hold the test devices into the camera for everyone to see, with one exception: BTS singer J-Hope, aka Jung Ho-seok, apparently received permission to post a short Instagram Story in which the back of the new, compact Samsung foldable was clearly visible.

These Stories disappear after 24 hours, however the video itself has been shared a lot on social media. The content isn’t really new, of course, but for Samsung or BTS fans, it’s certainly worth mentioning. It remains to be seen however whether this new form factor - which Huawei has already established with the Pura X Max in China and which will become even more popular with the launch of Apple’s iPhone Ultra in September - will truly catch on. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor are also reportedly working on similarly wide and compact foldables.
