Xiaomi 18 series tipped for early India launch in December, Pro Max to replace Ultra

Xiaomi plans to bring the Xiaomi 18 series to India as early as December, according to an X post by tipster Yogesh Brar. This would be roughly two months ahead of the company's usual schedule, as it typically launches its flagship series in India during the first quarter of the following year.

The earlier timing likely traces back to the Ultra model's cancellation. Xiaomi's Ultra flagship usually launches several months behind the rest of the lineup, which has historically held back the wider rollout, including in India. With no Xiaomi 18 Ultra in development, the standard, Pro, and Pro Max models aren't stuck waiting on a later Ultra launch, letting Xiaomi roll out the whole series earlier than usual.

The lineup reportedly consists of three models: the standard Xiaomi 18, the Xiaomi 18 Pro, and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, with no Ultra model in this generation. That lines up with our earlier reporting that Xiaomi has cancelled the Xiaomi 18 Ultra outright, reportedly due to rising memory prices pushing the Pro Max's cost into Xiaomi 17 Ultra territory, making a separate, pricier Ultra model hard to justify. Xiaomi is said to be planning a return to the Ultra branding with the Xiaomi 19 next year.

The Pro Max is expected to arrive in India in more limited quantities than the standard and Pro models, mirroring the availability strategy Xiaomi previously used for Ultra-branded phones. That effectively makes the Pro Max the enthusiast pick this generation, while the other two models target broader availability.

No specifications have been confirmed for the India-bound models, and Xiaomi has not commented on the report.
