Robot Phone appears in the hands of FIFA World Cup 2026 winner

After the end of the final, which went into extra time and saw Spain ultimately win the 2026 World Cup 1–0, Spanish center back Eric García suddenly appeared with an unusual smartphone on the field at New Jersey Stadium in New York yesterday. Anyone who has been following international tech news outside of the Apple/Samsung bubble has seen that iconic phone before of course - it's the Robot Phone by Chinese smartphone maker Honor. The unusual camera flagship has made appearances at trade shows for almost a year now.
Honor's marketing coup
Video clips and images showing Eric Garcia wearing the winner’s jersey and filming with his Robot Phone are popping up all over social media now. Since it hasn't been officially released yet, it was probably gifted to him in return for some nice marketing activities. In China, the Robot Phone is currently available for pre-order reservation but the official launch isn’t expected until August.

So far, the only feature officially confirmed is the 200-megapixel 23mm main camera with a 3-axis gimbal and f/1.6 aperture. According to leaks, the phone also features a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. As for the chipset, Honor is likely using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. In a recent hands-on video, the Robot Phone appears to be relatively thick compared to its peers, the idea for this unusual smartphone was developed in collaboration with famed cinema camera manufacturer Arri.
