Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Ultra) may be “self-healing”: No crease reported after 3 months plus comparison video
A freshly unboxed foldable can easily appear crease-free, especially since it’s often shipped and taken out of the box in it's default condition and then photographed and filmed while still in an unfolded state. But what does the display look like a few months or a year later? The Galaxy Z Fold7 was once advertised with significantly better crease control compared to previous Samsung foldables, yet it barely looks crease-free now, as our hands-on comparison with the new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra shows.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Ultra) has "self-healing capabilities"
Even before the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 with its new form factor and Samsungs first "Ultra" foldable were officially unveiled a few hours ago, the well-known leaker Ice Universe had hinted on X that the displays have self-healing capabilities. No mention of this was made by official sources during the Galaxy Unpacked event, so this post could easily be dismissed as the usual hype leading up to a launch event.

Meanwhile, Ice Universe has provided further clues that may suggest Samsung, with its Flex Titanium technology, may indeed have found a long-term solution to the unpopular dent in foldable displays. At least according to a report from within Samsung, a Galaxy Z Fold 8 prototype still shows no sign of a deeper crease after three months of use. Of course, a Samsung employee is not an independent source, so only long-term experience with the final Samsung foldables will show whether there’s any truth to the display’s “self-healing” capabilities or not.
Comparison with Z Fold7, Oppo Find N6, and Vivo X Fold6
In another X post, the tech blogger provides further potential insights into how this “self-healing” feature could work. According to his limited hands-on experience with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a slight crease that appeared when the device was folded overnight disappeared automatically once the display remained unfolded for about 10 minutes. Of course, this is just an interesting anecdote for now and doesn’t prove much. Nevertheless Samsung may have found a long-term solution to the crease problem thanks to its flexible but still strong titanium layers and the new “stress-distributing” hinge. A video also compares the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s display with those of its predecessor as well as the Oppo Find N6 and Vivo X Fold 6.
