If you find Strategic Command too simple but War in the Pacific too overwhelming, WarPlan Pacific could be the perfect middle ground. According to players, the turn-based World War II strategy game stands out by offering enough strategic depth for veterans while remaining accessible to newcomers. It's currently 75% off on Steam, reducing the price from $39.99 to $9.99. According to SteamDB, this matches the game's all-time low.

The game takes place on a large hex-based map, where each turn represents two weeks of the Pacific War. Players must coordinate land, air and naval forces, capture islands and disrupt enemy convoys. Logistics are just as important as combat, with ports, railways, oil, manpower and strategic resources determining how long an offensive can be sustained. Despite featuring 22 unit types, 17 technologies, and numerous generals and specializations, players say the game keeps micromanagement to a reasonable level.

Five standalone scenarios are available. Those looking to experience the entire Pacific campaign can begin in 1941 with the attack on Pearl Harbor. Alternatively, players can start a later campaign in May 1942 or jump into shorter scenarios focusing on China, Okinawa or the Solomon Islands.

Although WarPlan Pacific has received only around 100 Steam reviews since its launch in March 2022, 89% of them are positive. Players frequently praise the game for delivering the classic "just one more turn" feeling that defines great turn-based strategy games. However, despite its reputation for being easy to learn, the game does not include a tutorial. New players should therefore expect to rely on community guides and other resources to get started. Steam currently lists Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown, although Reddit users report that the game runs well using Proton Experimental.
