Game Freak’s action RPG Beast of Reincarnation launches August 4

Pokémon developer Game Freak and publisher Fictions are releasing Beast of Reincarnation on August 4, 2026. Arriving across PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the third-person action RPG will also launch Day One on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Directed by Kota Furushima, the title represents Game Freak’s most ambitious original IP outside the Pokémon franchise, swapping creature collecting for a mature, technical combat experience built in Unreal Engine 5.

Post-apocalyptic Japan and real-time biome shifts

Set in Japan in the year 4026, the narrative follows Emma, an outcast "Sealer" fused with a parasitic corruption known as the Blight. Accompanied by a dog named Koo, Emma must cross ruined landscapes to defeat giant bosses and cleanse the natural world of corruption.

As per the developer, Beast of Reincarnation features dynamic biomes where wastelands can switch into dense forests in real time. These environmental transformations change the terrain and surroundings as well as spawn new enemy threats while players explore, requiring real-time adaptation during travel and combat encounters.

Hybrid "one-person, one-dog" combat mechanics

Game Freak also describes Beast of Reincarnation as a "one-person, one-dog" action RPG that fuses real-time swordplay with command-based tactics. In movement and combat, Emma uses plant-like hair vines to cross broken terrain, scale structures, and strike enemies from above. During active skirmishes, players engage in real-time melee combat where successfully parrying incoming strikes generates skill points required to unleash companion abilities.

Opening the tactical companion menu temporarily slows down the action, allowing players to order Koo to execute specialized techniques, status debuffs, or support maneuvers similar to a turn-based system. Off-field customization further deepens this synergy, giving players freedom to tailor Emma’s abilities through dedicated skill trees, gear loadouts, and spirit stones harvested from defeated bosses to support aggressive, ranged, or stealthy playstyles.

Launch details and Game Pass availability

Beast of Reincarnation unlocks globally on August 4. Subscribers on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass can access the full base game on day one at no extra cost. Digital pre-orders and storefront wishlists are currently live across Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store ahead of release.
