Tales of Eternia Remastered hits consoles and PC on October 16. Explore PS5 and Switch 2 physical release details, updated 2D combat, and retro visual options.

Bandai Namco and TOSE have revealed that Tales of Eternia Remastered is set to be released globally on October 16. The game lands on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, continuing Bandai Namco's efforts to preserve its classic RPG catalog.

Digital editions are available across all platforms, while physical versions for PlayStation 5, Switch, and Switch 2 are confirmed. First released in Japan in 2000 and localized for North America in 2001 as Tales of Destiny II, the title stands as a pivotal 2D entry in the long-running series.

Crossing parallel worlds to stop the Great Fall

The campaign takes place in Eternia, a world split into two isolated, parallel realms named Inferia and Celestia that sit face-to-face across the sky. The narrative follows Reid Hershel, a rural hunter from Rasheans, and his martial artist friend Farah Oersted. Their quiet lives change when a young girl named Meredy arrives from Celestia in a strange vessel, speaking Melnics, an unknown dialect. Joined by Mintche University scholar Keele Zeibel, the group discovers a cataclysmic threat known as the Great Fall. To prevent the twin worlds from colliding, the party travels across both realms to contract elemental spirits called Greater Craymels.

Active 2D combat

Combat runs on the series' signature Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System (A-LMBS), locking movement to a 2D side-scrolling plane in real time. Players take direct control of party members to chain physical Artes, launch Craymel spells, and manage active battle positions.

Independent display and sound toggles let you run the game with updated HD graphics and clean audio, or drop back to the original 2000 pixel art and retro sound effects. Bandai Namco also added practical features to cut down on old-school PS1 hassle. Maps now include destination waypoints, and players can tweak or turn off random encounters entirely. High-speed auto-battles, Quick Recovery, and immediate retry prompts help keep action moving after a party wipe. Extreme difficulty is open right from the start for veterans, while finishing the campaign unlocks the higher Unknown difficulty tier.
