Frogwares launches The Sinking City 2 on August 18. Explore flooded 1920s Arkham, resource-lean combat, pre-order editions, and the free Steam demo.

Frogwares is officially dropping The Sinking City 2 on August 18, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you were expecting another slow-burn detective simulator like the 2019 original, you might want to adjust your expectations. This time around, the studio is trading heavy clue-hunting for traditional, resource-starved survival horror straight out of the classic Resident Evil playbook.

Swapping out the original protagonist for occult adventurer Calvin Rafferty, the sequel dumps players into a flooded, decaying 1920s Arkham, Massachusetts. The setup is straightforward enough—rescue his partner Faye from a supernatural slumber—but getting through the city's submerged streets and rotting hospitals means dealing with both eldritch horrors and a reanimated threat known as the Slither.

Combat first, case files second

The biggest shift here is structural. Investigation mechanics haven't been completely thrown out, but they no longer block your main quest line. Instead, gathering evidence and solving side mysteries is entirely optional... rewarding curious players with weapon upgrades, crafting recipes, and supply caches rather than gating narrative progress.

That shift puts raw survival at the forefront. Ammunition is scarce, healing supplies are rare, and combat relies on a tight mix of period-accurate 1920s firearms and desperate melee swings. Environmental pressure plays a big role too, with Unreal Engine 5 driving dynamic floodwaters that physically change routes and spawn points as you explore Arkham's semi-open districts.

Editions and demo access

Pre-orders are live now across Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. All pre-orders—including the $49.99 Standard Edition—include the Chthonic Arsenal weapon set as a pre-order bonus.

The $54.99 Deluxe Edition stacks on the Arkham Field Kit, adding a trio of cosmetic outfits alongside an early talent unlock and a starter resource pack of ammo, healing, and crafting supplies. The $59.99 Premium Edition includes everything from Deluxe and adds The Holloway Manor side quest plus 24-hour advance access starting August 17.

If The Sinking City 2 isn't the only atmospheric action title on your radar, Dark fantasy extraction ARPG Mistfall Hunter launches July 29 on PC, PS5, and Xbox.
