Leaker Dusk Golem claims Capcom is planning a major story expansion for the Resident Evil Veronica remake, arriving around 2028 after Requiem's own DLC.

Capcom is reportedly rethinking how it fills the gaps between major Resident Evil releases. According to industry insider Dusk Golem, the publisher is planning a lengthy, single-player story expansion for Resident Evil Veronica, on top of the story DLC already confirmed for Resident Evil Requiem.

What Resident Evil Veronica is about

The remake reimagines Resident Evil Code: Veronica, originally released on Dreamcast in 2000. The story follows Claire Redfield roughly three months after the Raccoon City outbreak, as she searches for her brother Chris while trapped on the Umbrella-run Rockfort Island, before the plot shifts to an Antarctic research base and the Ashford family's twisted history. It's one of the few pre-RE Engine entries yet to receive a full remake, despite years of fan requests.

Capcom confirmed the project is being built by the same team behind the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, directed by Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo, and that it will run on the RE Engine as a third-person survival horror game. It's set for release in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

A shift away from spin-offs

The DLC leak follows recent comments from Capcom producer Masachika Kawata, who said the studio's development resources are currently tied up between new mainline entries and remakes, leaving little room for spin-off titles. Dusk Golem responded to those comments by outlining Capcom's alternative: building longer, more ambitious story expansions rather than new standalone side games, citing the strong reception of Resident Evil 4's Separate Ways and Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose as the rationale for the shift.

Estimated timeline

Dusk Golem's reported timeline for the two expansions:

  • Resident Evil Veronica Remake: targeting a Q1 2027 launch, with Q2 possible if development runs long.
  • Resident Evil Requiem story expansion: targeted for late 2027, arriving after Veronica ships.
  • Resident Evil Veronica story expansion: reportedly slated for 2028, roughly a year after the remake's release.

The original Code: Veronica never received a narrative expansion or direct side game, leaving the remake's planned DLC open ground for new material.

Capcom has not confirmed any post-launch plans for Resident Evil Veronica. As with any leak, these timelines and details are subject to change as development continues.
