Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls hits PS5 and PC on August 6

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works are gearing up for the launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, scheduled to release globally on August 6, 2026 (August 7 in Japan), for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the 2.5D fighter pairs Arc System Works' signature visual polish, seen in Guilty Gear -Strive- and Dragon Ball FighterZ, with a roster of iconic Marvel heroes and villains. Full crossplay is supported between PS5 and PC.

The recent open beta drew a reported peak of over 33,000 concurrent players on Steam, with Blade and Magik emerging as the most-used characters in high-rank matches, according to usage data compiled by the fighting game community.

4v4 tag mechanics and shared health

Unlike traditional tag-team fighters where each combatant maintains an individual life bar, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls introduces a shared team "Vital Gauge." Matches begin in a 1v1 setup with an assist character, gradually unlocking up to a full four-player lineup as players trigger mid-match conditions like damage milestones and arena-shifting Wall Breaks.

The 20-character base roster is split across five fixed teams: Unbreakable X-Men, Amazing Guardians, Fighting Avengers, Knights of Doom, and Samurai Outriders. Modes include a single-player "Episode Mode," featuring a narrative centered on the Elder of the Universe known as The Champion, alongside full online casual and ranked lobbies with rollback netcode. The game's anime-style opening cinematic was produced by Japanese animation studio Sanzigen and directed by Daisuke Suzuki, featuring the theme song "Stronger as One."

Post-launch roadmap and DLC

Sony has already begun teasing post-launch support. The studio recently revealed Phoenix Cyclops, voiced by Ray Chase, as the game's first Year 1 DLC character, slated to join the roster in fall 2026 as part of a four-character pass. Standard, Digital Deluxe ($84.99), and Ultimate ($99.99) editions are available, with the Year 1 pass bundled into the two higher tiers.
