Suikoden Star Leap gets August 7 release date, Steam version still to come

Konami has confirmed that Suikoden Star Leap, the newest entry in its long-running RPG series, will launch for iOS and Android in Japan on August 7, 2026. A PC version via Steam is also planned, though Konami has not yet announced its release date.

The launch marks the franchise's first mobile-native RPG entry, pairing upgraded pixel art visuals with dynamic audio and a timeline-based combat system.

Story timeline and the Rune of Change

Suikoden Star Leap is set in Solar Year 453, two years before the original Suikoden and three years after Suikoden V. The story begins in a lakeside village east of the Scarlet Moon Empire. After a sudden night attack devastates the village, the chief's son sets out with his companions Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur to restore order.

The plot centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes in series lore. As players travel west into the Scarlet Moon Empire, the story explores the early origins of the Toran Liberation Army and brings back returning characters, including Viktor, Flik, Humphrey, and Odessa.

Battle systems, mini-games, and the 108 Stars of Destiny

The game adapts traditional Suikoden combat for mobile with a six-character party. Battles use a timeline turn system built around normal attacks, rune magic, and gauge-charged secret techniques. A separate War Mode brings back real-time strategy battles for larger military engagements.

Side content includes randomized Treasure Hunt dungeons, with loot appraised by Lei Falmer, and a 50-wave Mirage Tower challenge overseen by Raura. Village activities let players mine ores, catch fish, sharpen equipment, and take part in returning mini-games such as Whack-A-Mole.

Keeping with series tradition, all 108 Stars of Destiny can be recruited through main story progression rather than gacha. Gacha mechanics are used instead for recruiting characters from earlier Suikoden games and for other supplementary content. Konami will air a pre-launch stream, Suikoden Live Vol. 7, on August 6, with Fairouz Ai, the Japanese voice actress for Shirin, appearing as a guest.
