Samsung details August 2026 security patch for Galaxy devices ahead of Google

Samsung has published the details for its August 2026 Security Maintenance Release, getting ahead of Google's official Android update breakdown. The security patch resolves 56 separate vulnerabilities across Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16.

The update rollout will launch in the coming days. As usual with Samsung's staging schedule, early access goes to current flagship hardware, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the Galaxy S26 lineup. The software will then trickle down to previous-generation foldables, the Galaxy S25 family, and mid-range Galaxy A-series models worldwide.

Breakdowns of Google and Samsung security fixes

The bulk of the release focuses on core OS security, with 38 fixes pulled directly from Google's Android Security Bulletin.

Eight of those Google patches land at critical priority, plugging severe remote code execution and privilege escalation flaws inside core framework components. The remaining 30 high-priority fixes resolve memory corruption, driver interaction bugs, and broader framework risks. Samsung actually bypassed nine patches from Google's master bulletin—one landed back in July's update, while the other eight don't apply to Galaxy chipsets or hardware configurations.

Proprietary One UI security enhancements

The other 18 fixes cover Samsung's own vulnerabilities and exposures across One UI and default Galaxy apps. That includes a patch for an authorization bypass in SemClipboardService (SVE-2026-0916) that previously let unprivileged local apps scrape sensitive clipboard content. Input validation holes were also patched across standard apps—including Samsung Contacts, Dialer, Messages, Galaxy Themes, and AppLock—securing SIM services and user profiles against rogue data access.

Further down the stack, the update cleans up low-level media and hardware code. Out-of-bounds memory flaws and numeric conversion errors were resolved inside the VC1 and MPEG4 video codecs (libsavsvc.so), while stricter access controls landed on the Weaver hardware module (SVE-2026-1829) to prevent local exploits from triggering system lockouts. Galaxy owners can pull the update in the coming days via Settings > Software Update > Download and install.
