The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, equipped with its Leica camera system, is one of the best high-end smartphones of 2026. But can this Android flagship also deliver when it comes to video quality? We take a look at 4K footage to see what the new Xiaomi device is capable of and compare its performance with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

In our review, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra stands out for its excellent photo quality. Are you interested in even more information or would you like to have access to all our shots with the Leica cameras? Then take a look at our full review of the Xiaomi phone. When it comes to video, the flagship phone (prices start at around 860 euros) can also score points with its strong features.

In addition to 4K video recording at up to 120 fps, the flagship camera smartphone from Xiaomi also supports 8K footage on all lenses, delivering a high level of detail in good lighting conditions — provided you use a tripod or have a steady hand. The new main camera with the new 1-inch image sensor, which ensures good image quality and less noise, especially in low light conditions, is a highlight for video fans.

We take a look at the image quality and stabilization (OIS + EIS) of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra during motion and rapid scene changes. We use the 4K30 Dolby Vision option, which all cameras of the Xiaomi flagship support. We also compare the main camera with the Galaxy S25 Ultra for better context.

Comparison with the Galaxy S25 Ultra shows the quality of the Xiaomi phone

Especially in daylight, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra produces very detailed shots. For our video sample, we used the zoom levels 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3.2 - 4.3x and 8.6x. Overall, we are very satisfied with the image stabilization, but the autofocus struggles with fast movements. In sections where we are running lightly, a noticeable “focus pumping” effect also occurs.

Compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which delivers very good video quality, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s autofocus weaknesses are only minor. The Samsung device tends to “pump” slightly more, while the Xiaomi flagship holds the focus area a bit more reliably.

Android-Phone with Dolby Vision and LOG video format

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra supports Dolby Vision, providing extended dynamic range and vivid colors. The flagship also offers LUT import and a LOG video format. Its camera app includes extensive customization options for video recording, and—just like with photos—there is a dedicated Pro mode for video.
