The Xiaomi 18 series is likely over six months away from becoming official. Nonetheless, leakers continue to speculate about what Xiaomi has in store for its next flagship smartphones. For instance, Digital Chat Station has now elaborated on how Xiaomi hopes to distinguish the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max from its current Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
Writing on Weibo, Digital Chat Station suggests that Xiaomi is testing configurations with dual 200 MP cameras. While the leaker does not mention the company explicitly, the lack of emojis in their post indicates that they are talking about unreleased Xiaomi smartphones. Additionally, they specifiy 'non-Ultra models', which leads us to the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
Currently, Xiaomi equips its non-Ultra flagships with a trio of 50 MP rear-facing cameras. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra surpasses its Pro and Pro Max siblings with a 200 MP telephoto camera, as well as superior 50 MP primary and ultra-wide-angle lenses.
For the time being, Digital Chat Station has not elaborated further about how Xiaomi will implement these dual 200 MP cameras inside the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. However, past performance suggests that both devices will feature 200 MP primary and telephoto cameras rather than 200 MP ultra-wide-angle or front-facing cameras. The Xiaomi 18 series is not expected to arrive in China until late September or early October. In the meantime, Xiaomi is expected to replace the Xiaomi 15 (curr. $827.50 on Amazon) and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra globally later this quarter.
