Sony has announced the Bravia Projector 7, a new model designed for home theaters. Also known as the VPL-XW5100ES, it joins the older Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES) and Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) (curr. $15,996.28 at Amazon).
The Bravia Projector 7 is a premium model with a laser light source for up to 2,200 lumens brightness, expected to run for 20,000 hours. It has a native 4K SXRD panel for an up to 4K (4,096 x 2,160 px) resolution, with 4K upscaling and support for IMAX Enhanced. It can project images with a 1.38-2.21:1 throw ratio and has 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut. For gaming, it supports 4K@120Hz with a 12ms input lag, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and HDMI 2.1 ports.
Like the other Bravia models, it has the XR Processor for features like XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR Triluminous Pro, and XR Clear Image. These tools are said to deliver improvements like rich and vivid colors, and a high brightness level. You can quickly perfect the image with tools like corner keystone correction and lens shift, and Aspect Scaling Mode allows the projector to intelligently switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1 ratios without the user needing to make lens adjustments.
Plus, it can integrate with smart homes via Control4, Creston, Savant and AMX. This is said to be a compact and lightweight model, measuring 18.13 x 7.88 x 18.59 inches (~461 x 20 x 472 mm) and weighing 28 lbs (~13 kg). The US pricing and release date of the Sony Bravia Projector 7 are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. This model will not launch in the UK or other European countries due to new legal restrictions.
