The Japanese watchmaker Grand Seiko has presented its latest mechanical watch, the SBGW323 Kiri. With zero complications, the company’s new dress watch boasts a Mt. Iwate dial pattern. For those who aren’t aware, Iwate is located on the northeastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, and this place is known for its purple kiri flowers.
The latest addition offers a modern take on the signature Grand Seiko 44GS lineage. The timepiece has inherited the iconic profile of its 1967 ancestor, the 44GS, and sports a compact 36.5 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 11.6 mm. The case is complemented by a box-shaped sapphire crystal and a steel caseback with Grand Seiko’s famed lion emblem. Plus, it has 100 m (10 bar) of water resistance, making it suitable for light water activities.
The main highlight here is the dial. The SBGW323 watch has a soft and beautiful purple Mt. Iwate pattern dial inspired by the kiri flower. The textured dial is adorned with hour markers and hour, minute, and second hands. However, there’s no date window complication here.
At the heart of the Grand Seiko SBGW323 Kiri watch is a caliber 9S64 manual movement, which runs at a frequency of 28,800 vph (vibrations per hour), features 24 jewels, and offers 72 hours of power reserve. The mechanical movement guarantees accuracy between +5/-3 seconds a day while offering 4,800 A/m gauss magnetic resistance. Furthermore, the case is paired with a matching mix-finished stainless steel bracelet with a fold clasp and push-button release.
The Grand Seiko SBGW323 Kiri watch is priced at $5,600/€6,000. It will be available in May 2025 at Grand Seiko Boutiques and other authorized retail partners worldwide.
