Vivo switched to OriginOS for its Chinese-market smartphones generations ago; however, it still sticks with the Funtouch OS moniker when it comes to its international devices. Its latest form with the most up-to-date Android 14 basis is now out of beta for 2 of the OEM's global handsets.
Vivo asserts that Funtouch OS 14 will have the most sophisticated version of its UI yet, with a Smooth Envision engine rated to keep more apps open without lags, stutters or freezes of any kind. It also incorporates a feature to extend RAM for devices with 8GB or more for this purpose - albeit by only up to 600MB.
Funtouch OS 14 animations are also touted to at least look more fluid than ever with a new Motion Blur algorithm-based feature - even for devices without super-high refresh rates. The new UI will also exhibit many of the latest Android 14 customization options, monochrome themes included.
Vivo also unleashes its take on the Dynamic Island trend in Funtouch OS 14, in the form of "a new non-interactive mini small window mode" so that the user can monitor the progress of things such as deliveries while using other apps.
Funtouch OS 14 also includes new "enhanced video editing tools", a Smart Mirroring feature for screen-sharing that prevents the exposure of notifications and password-protected "hidden photos". Its OTA is scheduled to start hitting units of the Vivo X90 Pro and iQOO 11 sold in markets such as India in mid-October 2023.
