The Vivo V29 Pro is now official with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 SoC, 8/12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. The phone packs a triple camera system on the back with a novel Smart Aura Light and a single selfie shooter on the front. Vivo has yet to disclose availability information.

Vivo has added to the V29 series of mid-range Android phones with the announcement of the Vivo V29 Pro. As the name suggests, the Vivo V29 Pro is the souped-up version of the Vivo V29 with key improvements to the camera system and the SoC.

For starters, the Vivo V29 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset, similar to the Vivo V27 Pro, augmented by 8/12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone also has a 4,600 mAh battery with support for 80 W FlashCharge fast charging for which Vivo bundles the adapter with the phone.

Moving on to the design, the Vivo V29 Pro is a glass sandwich with a glossy glass back and a curved screen up front. Other than the inclusion of magnetic particles that paint mountain silhouettes on the back of the Himalayan Blue variant, the Vivo V29 Pro sports a pretty bog standard design.

Display-wise, the Vivo V29 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 1,260x2,800 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and a touch sample rate of 1,000 Hz. The panel boasts a peak brightness of 1,300 nits and is HDR10+ certified.

Aside from the SoC, the biggest difference between the Vivo V29 and the Vivo 29 Pro is the inclusion of a dedicated “Portrait” camera in the latter. The portrait camera has a Sony IMX663 12 MP sensor, an f/1.98 aperture, and 2X zoom alongside dual-pixel autofocus. As reported by GSMArena, the zoom allows the portrait shooter to lock on the subjects from 0.5 m to 2 m away.

In addition to the portrait camera, the Vivo V29 Pro boasts a 50 MP main shooter with a Sony IMX766 sensor. The main camera incorporates Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and an f/2.0 aperture lens. Completing the setup on the back is a third ultrawide snapper with an 8 MP resolution and a circular Smart Aura Light that Vivo claims is now 36% brighter than the previous generation.

Furthermore, there is a 50 MP selfie snapper on the front with a 90° wide Field of View. Fortunately, the selfie shooter incorporates AutoFocus something which the newly-announced and more expensive Google Pixel 8 lacks.

Other notable specs include dual-sim support, 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

When it becomes available, the Vivo V20 Pro will run you back INR39,999 or US$480 for the 8 GB/256 GB SKU. The 12 GB SKU with the same amount of storage costs INR42,999 which, at the current exchange rate, translates to US$517. This puts the Vivo V29 Pro starkly in the much-contested mid-range segment with phones like the Google Pixel 7a and the new Galaxy S23 FE.
