MediaTek and iQOO have synced up to introduce the Neo7 SE, the first new Android smartphone to be powered by the Dimensity 8200 SoC today (December 8, 2022). The device leverages its new 4nm octa-core chipset to drive a flat FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, kept on with a battery capable of charging at 120 watts (W). The triple rear camera handset starts for just around US$300 in China from now.

The new iQOO Neo7 SE has launched as an Android smartphone that supports HDR10+, Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 thanks to its equally new Dimensity 8200 platform. It has been revealed as having 4 ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, and 4 Cortex-A78s, 3 of which are clocked at 3.0GHz with the remaining one being the fastest 3.1GHz core of the 4 nanometer (nm) chipset.

The 8200 also integrates a 6-core Mali-G610 GPU rated for 8% greater performance compared to that of the previous 8100 generation as well as a MediaTek APU 580 for AI functions touted to live up to "the fastest ETHZ benchmark performance in its class".

An Imaqiq 785 ISP technically rated to support 320MP single cameras (although the iQOO Neo7 SE tops out at a 64MP main sensor with OIS) with 4K HDR video recording and a MiraVision 785 display chip to help drive WQHD+ screens at up to 120Hz, or those of FHD in resolution that can go up to 180Hz.

Nevertheless, the iQOO Neo7 SE goes with a 120Hz refresh rate; then again, its FHD+ OLED display might make up for that with an impressive enough 1,300-nit peak brightness and a 93.11% screen-to-body ratio. On that note, it is a thin-bezel flat 6.78-inch panel, just like the new 11 flagship from the same brand.

On that note, the Neo7 SE and iQOO 11 share the same dual-cell 5,000mAh battery that charges at the brand's second-fastest 120W rate. The inaugural Dimensity 8200 vehicle also maxes out its SoC's RAM support with LPDDR5 modules and fast UFS 3.1 flash storage...if only because the new 11-series flagships have moved on in both respects.

Nevertheless, the Neo7 SE offers a compelling starting price, especially for an Android 13 (again, same as its top-end counterparts) smartphone with new silicon. It starts at 2.099 yuan (~US$301), rising to 2.899 yuan (~US$416) for its 12/512GB top-end SKU, even though it also has a 16GB RAM version with 256GB of internal storage for 2.799 yuan (~US$401).
