SIGMA is known for bringing its third-party yet high-quality lenses to multiple mount systems. Now, it has just expanded its considerable lineup with what it claims is the world's smallest and lightest ultra-wide APS-C zoom lens. The new ‘10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary’ will be made for the L-Mount, Sony’s E-mount and Fujifilm’s X-Mount. It has also announced development on a new full-frame ‘70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports’ lens to be launched by the end of the year.
The 10-18mm F2.8 (15-27 mm full frame equivalent) uses high-quality aspherical and low-dispersion elements for improved sharpness and aberration, and has a minimum focusing distance of 11.6 cm. It focuses internally using a stepping motor for fast, quiet autofocus. The lens is designed to minimise focus breathing (change of angle-of-view while focusing) which is useful for video, and is compatible with camera functions from various manufacturers, such as electronic image stabilisation, aberration correction, linear and non-linear focus ring settings and AF+MF.
Its mount incorporates rubber sealing for dust and water resistance, and SIGMA has developed a compact and more easily mounted push-on petal type hood for it. SIGMA claims that it’s the ideal lens for landscapes, travel, video and online content creation (including hand-held vlogging) thanks to its wide angle of view, large aperture (i.e. shallow depth of field), combined with a compact size and 260 g weight. This lens will be available starting October 26 and priced at US$599 / £599.
The second lens announced, still under development, is the ‘70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports’ for full-frame cameras using the L-Mount and E-Mount. Designed for professional sports/action photography, it features high-speed autofocus with HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), a new OS2 optical stabilisation algorithm, and superior weather resistance. It will be available by December 2023.
