Verdict - The Asus ExpertBook B1 15 is an affordable office laptop
The Asus ExpertBook B1 is an affordable business laptop that is particularly suitable for office applications, web browsing and simple multimedia tasks. Thanks to its robust design and solid energy efficiency, it offers reliable performance for everyday work. In our test, the laptop delivered decent performance, but its AMD Ryzen 7 was unable to develop its full potential due to the device's limited cooling and reduced TDP. At least Asus has installed two RAM modules, which benefits the iGPU. The MyAsus software—which always keeps users up to date—and the option to conveniently switch between the three performance modes using a key combination are further positive features.
The laptop's display is okay considering the price—but has some clear weaknesses, especially when it comes to color space coverage, making it less suitable for professional image editing. On the other hand, the ExpertBook B1 boasts a good selection of security features, making it an attractive choice for business use.

The Asus ExpertBook B1 is an inexpensive office laptop that is ideal for everyday work, web browsing and basic multimedia applications. During our test, we took a look at the device with an AMD Ryzen 5 7535U processor alongside 16 GB RAM and a 512-GB SSD. The 15-inch laptop retails for just over $700, which is quite respectable in relation to its overall package. If you add around $100, you can order the identical laptop with a faster AMD Ryzen 7 7735U.
Specifications
Case & connectivity - Simple plastic case
The Asus ExpertBook B1 doesn't offer any outstanding highlights. It uses a lot of plastic and unfortunately, this results in the device being quite the fingerprint magnet (see image). Even after a short period of use, clear marks become visible. Despite this lightweight material, the laptop has a high-quality finish and good stability. Its hinges allow a generous opening angle of up to 180 degrees, which supports flexible usage scenarios.
It is possible to carry out maintenance work on the Asus ExpertBook B1, but this requires a little care. The Asus laptop has a similar design to the Asus ExpertBook P1. Its base plate is attached with several screws and additional plastic clips ensure a firm fit. The center bracket in particular can be a little challenging to open. We would advise to first carefully loosen the edges before removing the underside with a controlled tug.
Even the inexpensive Asus ExpertBook B1 doesn't have to do without security features: In addition to a fingerprint scanner, its webcam features manual privacy protection. In addition, the laptop offers further protection mechanisms via MyAsus to prevent unauthorized access to the system.

Sustainability
Asus hasn't provided any specific information on the CO2 footprint of the ExpertBook B1's production. Its packaging is mainly made of cardboard, but also contains some plastic elements to protect the laptop and the power supply unit. Even so, according to Asus, the ExpertBook B1 uses 29 percent sustainable materials.
Input devices - Keyboard with white backlighting
The Asus ExpertBook B1's black keyboard has easy-to-read white lettering. In dark environments, three-stage white backlighting ensures better visibility. Its key travel and typing feel are quite pleasant overall. The keys feel firm and don't rattle—only the space bar is slightly louder. All-in-all, the keyboard offers solid quality.
At 10.5 x 7.4 cm, the ClickPad has the same dimensions as the 14-inch version of the Asus ExpertBook B1. A fingerprint scanner is located in the upper right corner and reduces its surface area even further. It feels nice and smooth, and inputs can be controlled precisely. However, the resulting mechanical clicks are loud and appear less high-quality.
Display - Matte IPS display with weaknesses
Asus has installed a matte FullHD display (1,920 x 1,080 pixels, 60 Hz) into the ExpertBook B1 15, which features the classic 16:9 aspect ratio. Subjectively, its picture quality is solid overall and is sufficient for simple everyday office use. However, the panel only covers around 62% of the sRGB color space, making colors appear somewhat pale. In the extended color spaces, its percentage coverage drops to just over 40%. The fact that we measured no PWM across all brightness levels is a positive aspect. The installed panel shows some visible backlight bleeding when depicting dark backgrounds.
The laptop's display falls short of the brightness of 300 cd/m² as specified by the manufacturer, and only achieved an average of 261 cd/m² during our test. Nevertheless, its low black level ensures a good contrast ratio, even if legibility remains limited in bright environments. Its factory calibration shows a slight green cast and the screen's overall color accuracy is poor—even performing our own calibration hardly resulted in any improvements. The inexpensive IPS panel quickly reaches its limits in this aspect and is unsuitable for image editing.

Performance - AMD APU with 6 cores and 12 threads
The Asus ExpertBook B1 delivers sufficient performance for everyday business use. Its 16 GB RAM in dual-channel mode offers enough power for most tasks. Alternatively, the office laptop is available with a more powerful AMD Ryzen 7 7735U (8 cores, 16 threads). According to Asus, its RAM can be expanded to up to 64 GB.
Testing conditions
Users can choose from three different performance profiles, which can be selected using a key combination or via the MyAsus software. Standard mode is activated by default, which we used for all our tests.
Processor
The AMD Ryzen 5 7535U features six cores and twelve threads based on Zen 3+ architecture. The processor's performance is in line with our average results, which means that the CPU delivers exactly the performance that is to be expected. In performance mode, which can be activated via the MyAsus software, for example, a little more performance can be teased out of the frugal 6-core component. However, major leaps in performance are not to be expected, as can be seen from the Cinebench results.

DPC latencies
The Asus ExpertBook B1 didn't show any serious weaknesses in the DPC latency test, but it didn't deliver an optimal result either. Even when simply surfing using the Edge browser, we reached the maximum value we documented. When playing 4K video material, we noted occasional dropped frames that were noticeable throughout the entire playback.

Storage device
Asus has equipped its ExpertBook B1 with a 512-GB SSD from Western Digital, which boasts good performance values. Even during the stress test, it showed no loss of performance, which indicates good heat dissipation. The device also features an additional M.2-2230 slot for expanding its storage space, while the pre-installed mass storage occupies the M.2-2280 interface.

Graphics card
The AMD Radeon 660M is the integrated graphics unit of the Ryzen 6000 and Ryzen 7035-series Ryzen 5 CPUs. Compared to the AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 from the previous generation, the RNDA-2 GPU delivers a performance increase of 10 to 30 percent, depending on the test and system. Due to the low TDP available to the APU, the results we noted are below average. In our gaming benchmarks, the Asus ExpertBook B1 had a hard time displaying adequate frame rates on its screen. In comparison, the GPU remains underperforming overall and is mostly suitable for simple tasks or older games.

Speakers
In total, the device's speakers don't offer outstanding sound quality. At least the treble is reproduced clearly, which benefits how intelligible voices are. However, music and movies sound hollow and lack depth.

Runtimes
The 50-Wh battery's runtimes are average, but were partially behind those of the competition during our test—especially compared to the Lenovo model, which is equipped with a 70-Wh battery. At a display brightness of 150 cd/m² (corresponds to 62% of the maximum brightness), the device lasted for just under ten hours in the WLAN test, while its runtime dropped to around 7.5 hours at full brightness. A full charge takes 130 minutes.

Notebookcheck total rating
The Asus ExpertBook B1 is a solid business laptop with good everyday performance, but some weaknesses. Its build quality is good, although Asus' choice of materials looks a little cheap. The AMD Ryzen 5 7535U is a frugal SoC, which manages decent battery runtimes. However, the competition sometimes delivers better values, meaning that our test sample was often only found in the midfield during our tests.
