Nanoleaf lights now illuminate nearly every nook and cranny of a home. The new Nanoleaf PC Mirror Lightstrip targets monitors, previously ignored parts of gaming rooms. Using a USB-C connection to reduce latency, the monitor backlight kit will cost $49.99.

Monitor backlight kits enhance gaming by projecting screen-mirrored lighting on walls. They can also be affordable, like Nanoleaf's new backlighting solution. The Nanoleaf PC Mirror Lightstrip works differently than some competitors, with a direct USB-C connection to PCs and Macs. Compatible with monitors up to 32 inches, the $49.99 light strip is now available for pre-order at Nanoleaf's website.

The main issue most monitor backlight products face is latency. Manufacturers like Govee have relied on cameras positioned on top of screens to capture images. Software running in the background performs the same function but usually communicates wirelessly with light strips. Each method results in delays between what a viewer sees displayed on a monitor and changes in lighting patterns. The Nanoleaf PC Mirror Lightstrip hopes to circumvent the problem using a USB-C cable and desktop software.

Affixing light strips to the back of monitors can also be frustrating. Nanoleaf's new kit includes a strip with a zigzag pattern that's easier to route around corners. It's also trimmable, so even 24-inch monitors are welcome. However, the rival Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 does have the advantage of working with larger 34-inch displays.

Many recent Nanoleaf lights also cater more to music lovers. The lower latency of the PC Mirror Lightstrip benefits fast-paced tracks. Using Nanoleaf Desktop, visualizations happen in real-time, with the light strip reacting to pulsating beats. Subscribing to Nanoleaf Premium for $1.99 a month unlocks a more customizable Orchestrator mode.

Unfortunately, the Nanoleaf PC Mirror Lightstrip is an option only for PC and Mac users. Console gamers may have to resort to a camera-based TV or monitor backlight option. Still, at $49.99, the new kit should have enough appeal, especially for owners of other Nanoleaf lights.
