An update has arrived for the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K and the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K. Firmware version 2.4.2 is the first update for the 8K model, which launched in October.
The change log for the update notes three changes for the Play HDMI sync box 8K. There is a new ARC bypass mode, which can be enabled or disabled in the accompanying app. This allows you to use Music mode for a range of different setups. Version 2.4.2 also ensures that the signal is stable regardless of the status of the sync box. Plus, there is a fix for an issue that occasionally occurs with HDMI signals at 120Hz.
For the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K, there are simply “general bug fixes and improvements”. This model was last updated in April when a fix for passthrough mode for Vizio M7 TVs arrived. The firmware version 2.4.2 release should be pushed automatically to the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K and the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K (curr. $247.75 at Amazon). To check if you have automatic updates switched on, go to the Philips Hue app > Settings > Software update.
