Gaming monitors with dual display modes are not entirely new but are still a niche in the industry. ViewSonic has now added another contender with its XG275D-4K, a cheaper option to the premium offerings from Asus and LG. This ViewSonic gaming monitor offers a dual display mode and users can switch between its native resolution of 4K at 160Hz refresh rate and a lower 1080p resolution at double the refresh rate, 320Hz.
ViewSonic XG275D-4K specifications
The switchable display feature allows gamers to get the best of both worlds, be it fast-paced competitive shooters or laid-back single-player campaign games. The XG275D-4K, as the name suggests, is a 27-inch display that comes with 4K resolution, but can switch to 1080p to get a much higher refresh rate. It is an IPS panel that offers 0.5ms (MPRT) response time and 300 nits peak brightness. It comes with an Anti-Glare type Hard-coating (3H) that will prevent light reflections. There is also a 24.5-inch Esports mode where the usable display area shrinks to a smaller size that is favorable for competitive gaming.
The XG275D-4K is compatible with both AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync for a tear-free gaming experience. Most people won’t use them, but there are dual 2W speakers as well.
For connectivity, there is a single HDMI 2.1 port, one DisplayPort, a USB Type-C port with 65W power delivery, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The monitor comes with VESA 75x75 compatibility, but the included stand offers all forms of adjustments including height, swivel, tilt, and pivot.
ViewSonic XG275D-4K price and availability
The ViewSonic XG275D-4K is priced at $500 and is available for purchase from the official website, Newegg, and other select retailers. It is listed on Amazon as well but is not available for purchase at the time of writing.
As mentioned earlier, this tech has been previously adopted by Asus with its ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP and the LG 32GS95UE. These are both 32-inch OLED panels that offer 4K resolution at 240Hz and 1080p at 480Hz, with 0.03ms response times. The Asus offering is priced at $1193 on Amazon while the LG offering costs $1300, both significantly more expensive than the ViewSonic model. Granted, both the Asus and LG models are capable of delivering a much more responsive and immersive experience.
