MSI MPG 272QPX: New 27-inch gaming monitor debuts with 1,152 Mini LED backlight zones and 500 Hz refresh rate
MSI had a busy CES this year, particularly when it came to monitors. On the one hand, the company confirmed prior to the event that it would showcase six monitors under its MAG and MPG brands. In short, only four were unique models though, with the MPG 491CQP and MAG 341CQP joined by pairs of almost identical 27-inch and 32-inch monitors.
On the other hand, MSI brought the MEG 321URX to CES 2024 as well, a counterpart to the MAG 321UPX QD-OLED and MPG 321URX that added an AI processor that can highlight various game elements in real-time. In a similar vein, the company also showcased the MPG 272QPX in Las Vegas, which was spotted by the likes of OC3D and TFT Central. For some reason, MSI has not listed the MPG 272QPX on its website, unlike its QD-OLED-based siblings.
Nonetheless, OC3D and TFT Central were able to capture photos of the unreleased monitor, as well as various key specifications. As its name suggests, the MPG 272QPX measures 27-inches across. Additionally, MSI has confirmed that the monitor relies upon an IPS panel, dubbed 'Rapid IPS' because of its 0.5 ms GtG response times. Moreover, the MPG 272QPX combines a 2,560 x 1,440 (WQHD) resolution with a 500 Hz refresh rate like the Alienware AW2524HF.
Another star of the show is the monitor's full array local dimming (FALD), which features 1,152 Mini LED zones and delivers up to 1,000 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. On top of that, the monitor has a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4a connection and a USB hub consisting of two USB 3.0 Type-A ports plus a Type-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90 W Power Delivery. Unfortunately, MSI has not shared any details about pricing or availability yet.
