The Mechanical Energy Harvesting Combo is one of the unusual products that Lenovo brought to this year's CES. On the face of it, the Mechanical Energy Harvesting Combo looks like a conventional mouse and keyboard set aimed at gamers. For reference, the company also showcased the Legion K510 Mini Pro, Legion M410 and Yoga Pro Mouse during CES 2024, all of which we have covered separately.
However, the Mechanical Energy Harvesting Combo uses 'mechanical movement and solar irradiation' as power sources rather than batteries or USB connections. On the one hand, the bar sitting above the keyboard's number row is actually a solar panel rather than a Touch Bar equivalent. Please note that the solar panel is only present on the keyboard and not its accompanying mouse. Lenovo has not shared any specifics about the technology behind the keyboard's solar panel yet, either.
On the other hand, both peripherals have cranks for generating electricity; one minute of turning the mouse's handle will provide 30 minutes of usage, while the keyboard's dial needs about five minutes of turning for the same battery life return. In other words, the keyboard needs roughly 1h 20m of 'mechanical' movement for 8 hours of usage. On top of that, Lenovo mentions a Mechanical Energy Harvesting headset, although it has not provided any device photos of this third example.
Lenovo adds that the keyboard also sports a detachable USB Type-C cable for a wired connection and RGB backlighting across its 68 keys, as well as 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth LE connectivity. Meanwhile, the mouse features a blue optical sensor with 12,800 DPI and a Telink 8271 chipset that delivers 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connectivity. Unfortunately, Lenovo has not shared pricing or an approximate release date yet.
