Xiaomi has now halted MIUI 12 development for the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 8, for two different reasons. The company also suspended the MIUI 12 rollout for the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro—due to optimization concerns.

Xiaomi recently began the MIUI 12 rollout for the Redmi K30 5G, Redmi K20 Pro, and Mi 9T Pro, after sending out stable beta updates to the Mi 9, Redmi K20, and Mi 9T. The company is expected to expand the MUI 12 rollout in the coming weeks, but it appears owners of the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 7 will have to wait a while.

Going by official information on the Mi Forums, Xiaomi has now halted MIUI 12 development for the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 7. The reasons for that are simple: The Redmi Note 8 looks to be on its way to an Android 10 update, and Xiaomi prefers to focus on that instead. The Redmi Note 7's build, however, seems to have some stability issues. Xiaomi has also suspended the MIUI 12 rollout for the Mi 10, Redmi K30 Pro, and Mi 10 Pro.

What this implies for the Redmi Note 8 is that the phone will get Android 10 wrapped with MIUI 11, instead of MIUI 12 as earlier rumors indicated. We expect a beta stable Android 10 update for the phone in the coming weeks.
