Previous information indicated that the Redmi Note 8 would get the Android 10 update with MIUI 12 shortly. That may be in doubt now, however, as word from the Mi Forums claims the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8T—essentially a Redmi Note 8 for certain markets—is months away.

The Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T's journey towards Android 10 has been a topsy-turvy one so far. The Note 8 actually received an early Android 10-based MIUI 12 build which ended up being promptly pulled due to major bug concerns. That has all but confirmed that the Note 8 will get Android 10 and MIUI 12 in one package, but it seems such an update may be a while away.

When quizzed about the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8T on the Mi Forums, a Device Team member clarified that the update will arrive "in few months". That's unlikely to thrill owners of the phones, as previous information leaned towards the phone receiving the update in the very near future.

We're not sure if this is anything to go by. After all, the Redmi Note 8 already received a MIUI 12 build a few weeks ago, albeit only for a short while. The Redmi Note 8T is essentially a  Redmi Note 8 for the European market, and both phones typically get updates simultaneously or thereabouts. Strictly speaking, however, neither the Note 8 nor the Note 8T are listed as part of the initial Redmi MIUI 12 pilot program, so there's some logic in the phones taking an extra bit of time to receive the Android 10-based MIUI 12 update.
