The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 seems more than likely to be getting a Pro edition in the not too distant future. References to the “Kongming L”, “Kongming Lite”, and “Kongming Pro” had already been spotted in app code, and now there has been another sighting of the Mi Band 5 Pro, thanks to user MagicalUnicorn on the GeekDoing forum.
The word “Kongming” is the codename for the Chinese version of the popular Mi Band 5 smart bracelet, with “York” being the codename for the global variant. “Kongming L” refers to the domestic market variant of the Xiaomi activity tracker that does not come with NFC functionality. So, the focus this time around is purely on more evidence of the “Kongming Pro” and its planned existence.
Screenshots of pages from the Mi Fit 4.2.0 app were taken that show system settings for the Mi Band 5 NFC and the non-NFC variant. However, a third image is headed “Kongming Pro”, which points to the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Pro being in the works. Unfortunately, all the settings screenshot reveals is that the Pro edition will also have NFC functions, which is hardly a surprise, as indicated by the presence of the settings “Transit card” and “Create access card”.
