It appears the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 has been a great success in its domestic market so far, selling out almost as quickly as it was released. Now the activity tracker has been discovered in BIS certification, leading to the expectation that the Mi Band 5 will soon be available for customers in India. The wearable was listed in the documents under the model number XMSH10HM.
As for how much the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could cost in India, the Chinese OEM has yet to offer up price tags for international markets. The fitness tracker is priced at 229 yuan (US$32) and 189 yuan (US$27) for the NFC and non-NFC model, respectively, in China. A price tag of ₹2,499 has been offered by one source, but this seems a little low, especially for an NFC variant of the Mi Band 5.
The Mi Band 4 price in India at the moment is ₹2,299 (US$30), having been reduced from ₹2,499. If Xiaomi priced the Mi Band 5 at just ₹200 (US$2.60) more than the predecessor, it would effectively kill all the Mi Band 4 sales, as savvy shoppers would simply pay the small amount more for all the extra features the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 brings with it.
While it has been mentioned that the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be launched in India in September, it may well actually be much sooner. BIS certification often signals an upcoming launch for the region, and Xiaomi has already promoted a July release for the global variant of the activity tracker, known as the Mi Smart Band 5.
