Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 global activity tracker packaging omits NFC, Alexa, and SpO2 - possibly held back for a Pro model
It appears a couple of images of the packaging for the global variant of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 may have helped solve some recent mysteries concerning the popular activity tracker. The wearable, which is known as the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 outside of the domestic Chinese market, is expected to start shipping this month, so it’s not surprising that some images of the packaging have already been leaked.
The two images (see below) clearly state that this is the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 on show, so it is the global model. If you zoom in on the text on the rear of the box, you can make out that it is in English, with a compatibility list and contents list being visible. According to the original poster of the images, there is no sign of NFC, Alexa or XiaoAI, or the SpO2 blood oxygen monitor with this particular band, though.
However, it has been pointed out that this Xiaomi Smart Band 5 is the same as the Kongming L model, which is the cheaper version of the Chinese Mi Band 5 activity tracker without advanced functions such as NFC, etc. Apparently, the global variant has been booted up and displayed instructions in English (“Pair with Mi Fit”), so then the question has to be asked what happened to the above-mentioned functions that were expected to come with the global model?
Well, the answer to that may have already been leaked a couple of times. It appears a Pro model of the smart band is in the works, and it could be this version that brings NFC, Alexa, and the SpO2 sensor to future owners of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 (Pro). At least expectant Xiaomi fans know they should soon be able to get their hands on the global variant of the activity tracker soon, regardless of what features might not be present on this particular model.
