The previously believed “York” global variant of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 has surprisingly turned up as the Huami Amazfit Band 6. Some code clues and a render for the Amazfit Band 6 were first discovered and shared by MagicalUnicorn on the GeekDoing forum before the wearable appeared on AliExpress as the “new 2020 global version Amazfit Band 6”. The fitness tracker apparently comes with both Amazon Alexa and a blood oxygen monitor, which were two of the most noted features left out of the Mi Smart Band 5’s specifications list when that device was launched for the global market.
No price is listed for the Amazfit Band 6 and there is no specific release date mentioned either, but considering the plethora of promo images for the fitness tracker and the fact it has appeared on AliExpress does suggest an official launch is incoming. Along with the aforementioned features, buyers of the Huami Amazfit Band 6 will be treated with a wearable that boasts of having a 1.1-inch full color AMOLED display (126x294), a range of strap colors, and a battery life of up to 15 days.
The Huami Amazfit Band 6 is charged via a pogo pin connection, which is one of the areas where it shows it is not just a completely rebranded Xiaomi Mi Band 5, as the latter comes with a magnetic charging system instead. However, there’s no denying the two wearables are practically indistinct, with Huami being deeply involved with the development of both products. It’s possible the “York” band has been released as the Amazfit Band 6 because the Amazfit brand is already established in important markets such as the US.
