Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 confirmed to have no Amazon Alexa integration, NFC or a SpO2 sensor ahead of tomorrow's launch; TWS earbuds, Mi TV Stick and a new Mi Scooter teased too
Xiaomi has confirmed several of the devices that it will be launching at tomorrow's Ecosystem Product Launch event, including a "mysterious surprise". According to multiple press releases, the company will announce the Mi TV Stick, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic and a new member of the Mi Electric Scooter family. All these devices have either been leaked previously or have been released under different names in Xiaomi's home market of China.
Also on the agenda is the release of the Mi Smart Band 5; the global version of the Mi Band 5. While the packaging of the Mi Smart Band 5 has been revealed on GeekDoing forums, Portuguese website Tech Bit has published its review of the fitness tracker prior to its official announcement.
According to the website, it is difficult to distinguish the Mi Smart Band 5 from the Mi Smart Band 4 in person. With that said, Tech Bit adds that the silicone band feels superior and more durable than the one Xiaomi includes with the Mi Smart Band 4.
The website has also confirmed that the Mi Smart Band 5 will only support English and Chinese as system languages at launch. We imagine that Xiaomi will remedy this soon after it officially unveils the fitness tracker, though. Unfortunately, Tech Bit can confirm that the Mi Smart Band 5 lacks a SpO2 sensor. Additionally, the global model does not support NFC or Amazon Alexa functionality. Tech Bit opines that these features are likely headed to a Pro version of the Mi Smart Band 5, about which we have previously speculated.
It is unclear when Xiaomi will release the Mi Smart Band 5 Pro. It could be the company's "mysterious surprise" to which one executive alluded, but that is just speculative on our part.
