Xiaomi launches the Mi Smart Band 5 globally; pre-sale commences July 20
Xiaomi has announced the Mi Smart Band 5, the global version of the Mi Band 5 that it unveiled in June. Launched at today's Ecosystem Product Launch event, the Mi Smart Band 5 was joined by the Redmi 9, Redmi 9A, Redmi 9C and Mi Curved Gaming Monitor among other devices.
As predicted, Xiaomi is selling the Mi Smart Band 5 for €39.99. The fitness tracker is also available to purchase in the UK, where Xiaomi sells it for £39.99. According to its Spanish eCommerce platform, Xiaomi will host a pre-sale event for the Mi Smart Band 5 on July 20 at 00:00 CEST. The company's corresponding UK listing does not state this, though.
The Mi Smart Band 5 features a 1.1-inch AMOLED panel that resolves natively at 126 x 29 pixels. The panel has a 16-bit colour depth and a maximum brightness of 450 nits. Additionally, it has a PPG heart rate sensor, along with a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope. The fitness tracker supports 24-hour heart rate and sleep monitoring and 11 sports modes. The Mi Smart Band 5 also supports magnetic charging, just as the Mi Band 5 does.
The fitness tracker is also waterproof to 5 ATM and has a 125 mAh battery that Xiaomi claims can last up to 14 days between charges. The device connects to devices via Bluetooth 5.0 LE. According to Xiaomi, the Mi Smart Band 5 also supports the following features:
- Remote photo-taking
- Music playback
- Find my phone
- Phone muting
- Phone unlocking
- Incoming call notification
- Do not disturb
- WhatsApp notifications
- App message alerts
- Calendar reminders
- Event reminders
- Weather forecasts
- Timers
- Countdown timers
- Alarms
- Bluetooth broadcasting
The Mi Smart Band 5 does not support NFC, Amazon Alexa integration or a SpO2 sensor as was previously rumoured. Xiaomi may be reserving this for a Pro model, but the company is yet to confirm that this is the case.
