Nine months after release, the Redmi Note 8 is yet to receive a major OS update, even though the Redmi Note 8 Pro got its Android 10 update months ago. That is set to change, however, with new information giving Redmi Note 8 owners around the world an idea of when the Android 10 update will finally arrive.

A few days ago, we reported that the Redmi Note 8T's MIUI 12 update could potentially take months to arrive. That doesn't seem to be the case for the Redmi Note 8, however, and owners of the phone finally have something to look forward to.

Going by recent information, the Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 8 appears to be on the way. Two days ago, Xiaomi sent out an initial MIUI 12 beta build to the Redmi Note 8 in China, and it appears the update will enter the beta stage soon, with Xiaomi Firmware Updater citing a two-week wait time.

Of course, a China beta stable release is a lot different from a global stable release. The update would have to first be released completely in China, then make its way over to the rest of the world in beta form. It typically takes anywhere within a week to a month for an update to go from China beta stable to global stable. That in mind, Redmi Note 8 owners around the world should have the Android 10-based MIUI 12 update on their hands by late July or early August.
