The Redmi Note 8 sees yet another price hike in India
A few weeks ago, we reported that Xiaomi had once again increased the regular retail price for the Redmi Note 8 in India, making for a total of five such increases this year. Well, it turns out five isn't quite the magic number, and the company has yet again increased the price of the best-selling mid-range phone.
Last time out, the regular retail price of the Redmi Note 8 was raised by Rs 500, bringing it up to Rs 12,499. The price has now been raised again by Rs 500, which leaves it at a hectic 12,999. For some perspective, the Redmi Note 8 was launched at Rs 9,999. That's a huge rise in pricing, really. 30%, to be exact.
Amazon India currently has the phone available for Rs 12,799 but that appears to be after a Rs 200 discount. Croma, for instance, has it listed at Rs 12,999.
We've seen pricing shenanigans from Xiaomi in the past—the Poco F2 Pro comes to mind. This is much worse, however, as Xiaomi has simply chosen to launch and advertise a phone at an attractive price point, then turn around and steadily increase prices.
