The Redmi Note 8 remains stuck on Android Pie and MIUI 11, and it appears its journey towards attaining MIUI 12 and Android 10 has hit yet another bump. It's not the only phone in similar straits, however, with the Redmi Note 7's update also hitting a snag.

Xiaomi has quietly been sending out MIUI 12 builds to a number of its phones, including mid-rangers like the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Two of the company's most popular phones, however—the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 7—remain on MIUI 11, and it appears that may not change soon.

According to a report by RPRNA, the MIUI 12 updates for the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 7 have now been delayed. The reasons are different, too. For the Redmi Note 7, it appears the MIUI 12 build has an issue with OTG connection. For the Redmi Note 8, it seems to be more of stability issues, with the build unable to compile properly. Supposedly, the Redmi Note 8 isn't the only phone with MIUI 12 stability issues, with RPRNA also listing the Mi CC9e and Mi Mix 3

What this means is that the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi 7 may take a few weeks more to arrive. That's particularly bad news for Redmi Note 8 owners, as they're billed to receive Android 10 as part of the MIUI 12 update. An August ETA should still be on the cards, however.
