The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 may receive Android 10 before the arrival of MIUI 12
Xiaomi recently pushed Android 10 to the Redmi Note 7 Pro after months of waiting, possibly only a few months before its releases MIUI 12 to the handset. The Redmi Note 7 is yet to receive the same treatment though, despite Android 10 having been available as a closed beta for over a month now. However, it would seem that Xiaomi may be on the verge of finally issuing Android 10 to the device.
The information comes from a Mi.com Community moderator, who states that "good news [is] coming very soon" for the Redmi Note 7. Piunikaweb posits that this means Xiaomi will upgrade the Redmi Note 7 to an MIUI 11 build of Android 10 rather than an MIUI 12 one, as has previously been suggested. The reasoning behind this is that Xiaomi has included the Redmi Note 7 in Round 2 or its MIUI 12 release schedule. Xiaomi is yet to confirm when it will commence Round 2, but Piunikaweb seems to believe that this will happen in July.
Ultimately, it seems that the Redmi Note 7 will receive Android 10 and MIUI 12 in quick succession, or possibly simultaneously. Nonetheless, few OEMs have taken as long to deliver a single OS upgrade for a smartphone as Xiaomi has with the Redmi Note 7. The device should be due at least an upgrade to Android 11 at some point too, but we doubt that will happen before 2021 based on Xiaomi's current behaviour.
