The Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 router is the first Wi-Fi 6-capable router from the Xiaomi subsidiary. At an attractive domestic price of 229 yuan (US$32), buyers in China will be able to enjoy connection speeds of up to 1,775 Mb/s. According to promotional material from Xiaomi, Wi-Fi 5 would have offered a maximum of 1,167 Mb/s, so the Redmi AX5 is approximately 52% faster when utilizing a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) connection.
The Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 router is packed with a penta-core chipset thanks to the presence of a quad-core Qualcomm processer and dedicated NPU. There is also 256 MB RAM and 128 MB storage, and the Redmi router from Xiaomi can apparently connect to up to 128 devices at a time. Mesh network support is incorporated to help the Redmi AX5 offer the best coverage possible.
Customers in other countries than China can pre-order the Xiaomi Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 router, which comes in white, from third-party retailers like Giztop. The current asking price is US$55.99, which while more expensive than the domestic price tag is still a good deal for a brand-new Wi-Fi 6 router. Shipments are expected to start taking place in the middle of June.
