Asus has announced its latest home router at CES 2021. The RT-AX68U is rated for the up-to-date Wi-Fi 6 standard, and the user burden, bandwidth and potential capacity for speed it entails. It is also equipped with Asus AiMesh as well as the OEM's AiProtection features for networking and antivirus properties out of the box.
The company also has something new for a day-one streamlined set-up it is launching in conjunction with the RT-AX68U: the Instant Guard app. This is intended to be used when encountering public or unsecured Wi-Fi, as it is a kind of automatic virtual private network (VPN) that is present directly on the router.
Therefore, it might help avoid lengthy sessions of filling in exhaustive configuration details as one might find with a normal VPN. Therefore, it might be ideal for apartment-dwellers who get whole-building Wi-Fi, for example.
It has a tall and slim enough design, finished in a "premium" style with a special textured coating. Then again, Asus has announced that Instant Guard security will ship with certain other 2021 routers of this brand, so there may be one more suited to mobile use coming.
The RT-AX68U Wi-Fi 6 router will be released later in January 2021, although it has only mentioned availability in North America to date.
