Asus will be dropping last year's Core i9-10980HK in favor of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and Ryzen 9 5900HX on its latest dual-screen ROG gaming laptop. It's not coming cheap, of course, with a starting price of almost $3000 USD.

Asus' dual-screen shenanigans won't be stopping anytime soon. Last year's ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is getting an update this year to the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE complete with new processors, new graphics options, and an upgraded main display.

The 2021 Special Edition update will make the jump from Intel Comet Lake-H to AMD Zen 3 up to the Ryzen 9 5900HX with new liquid metal cooling. Whether or not there will eventually be an Intel option remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the GPU will be updated to the GeForce RTX 3070 with 8 GB of RAM or RTX 3080 with 16 GB of RAM. Asus is promising clock rates of up to 1645 MHz and a TDP of 115 W, but we'll have to test the sustainability of such claims ourselves. The manufacturer hasn't specified if the new GPUs will be Max-Q or Max-P either since last year's Zephyrus Duo 15 was limited to the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q.

As for the 15.6-inch main display, users can now configure with a 120 Hz 4K UHD panel with full AdobeRGB coverage and fast 3 ms response times. The 2020 version was limited to 60 Hz 4K UHD only.

Other than the internal changes mentioned above, the chassis or external design remains unchanged including the 14.1-inch ScreenPad Plus. Note that the system does not include Thunderbolt support. We recommend checking out our existing review on the 2020 model to learn more about the physical features of the dual-screen gaming laptop.

The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE is now available for pre-order starting at $2899 USD.
