Not wanting to miss out on the CES 2021 hype train, Asus has launched many laptops at CES 2021. The Asus ROG Strix G15 and Strix G17 are watered-down versions of the more impressive Asus ROG Strix Scar series. However, they pack quite a punch and come with the latest AMD CPUs. The ROG Strix G15 will be available sometime in Q1 2021 from €999 (US$1,215) and the G17 from €1,599 (US$1,945).
Apart from the screen size, the Asus ROG Strix G15 and Strix G17 have identical specifications. As their names somewhat suggest, the former comes with a 15.6-inch screen and the latter 17.3-inches. Those looking for a refresh rate of 300Hz will have to settle for FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The WQHD (2,560 x 1,080) variant has a refresh rate of 165Hz. Both variants have a 3ms response time.
CPU option on the Asus ROG Strix G15 and Strix G17 include the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, Ryzen 7 5800H, Ryzen 5 5600H and, for some reason, the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H. GPU options, on the other hand, are fairly limited, as one only gets to choose between an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3060. Both the Asus ROG Strix G15 and Strix G17 support up to 32GB of RAM, along with 2TB of storage via an NVMe SSD.
Connectivity options include three USB Type-A (Gen1) ports, one USB Type-C (Gen2) port which can charge the device and output video, one HDMI 2.0b port and a 3.5mm headphone/mic combo jack. Both laptops come with a 90Wh battery that can be charged at up to 100W via a compatible USB PD charger. The included power adaptor can charge the notebooks at 240W.
