Huge blow to Apple’s iPad Mini: This OLED tablet beats it across the board

The Oppo Pad Mini impressively demonstrates in our review what a compact tablet should be like. It’s not just the Oppo tablet’s OLED display that highlights how dated Apple’s iPad Mini has become in many areas. It’s clear the apple device is in urgent need of a refresh.
Even at first glance, a major difference is apparent. While the Oppo Pad Mini looks modern with its thin display bezels, the Apple iPad Mini, in direct comparison, looks like an entry-level tablet. In terms of numbers: While the Oppo tablet’s screen-to-body ratio is nearly 90 percent, the small Apple tablet only reaches about 77 percent.
In terms of price, the compact OLED tablet from Oppo starts at around $730 at our loan partner Trading Shenzhen, putting it at a similar price point as the tablet from Apple. There’s even a matte version available (starting at around $930).
The Oppo Pad Mini offers impressive battery life compared to the iPad Mini
With its Pad Mini, Oppo offers an OLED display with a higher pixel density, better contrast, and significantly higher brightness in everyday use. The iPad Mini 7 achieved in our review a solid brightness of 525 cd/m², but it lags significantly behind the Oppo Pad Mini - especially when it comes to HDR content and our APL measurement. You can find all results in our review. While Oppo also features a responsive display with a 144-Hz refresh rate, the Apple iPad Mini is known to come with only a 60-Hz IPS panel with “jelly scrolling.”
Even though the Oppo Pad Mini comes with an almost bewildering set of features and a European launch remains unlikely, anyone interested in a compact device should check out the review of the Oppo tablet. Especially when compared to the iPad Mini, the tablets are sometimes worlds apart - particularly when it comes to battery life.
